5 This was a prospective, single center and cross-sectional study, conducted by the Basel Stem Cell Transplant Team of the University Hospital of Basel, Switzerland, for a defined time period. The study was performed in the context of the regular annual follow up controls, which included an update of the patients history, a full clinical investigation and laboratory tests such as whole blood counts, chemistry analysis, examination to assess the remission status of the primary disease and peripheral blood chimerism using a Polymerase Chain Reaction based assay analyzing polymorphic short tandem repeats. The study protocol has been approved by the Ethics Committee of the University Hospital Basel and patients were included once written informed consent was obtained. In the informed consent was included a question concerning the patient's willingness to be informed about his results.

Ically eliminates "borderline" nuclei before measuring the number of nuclei per unit area. As for the elastin and elastin contents, the number of nuclei per millimeter of longitudinal section was calculated from nuclei densities and medial surface area. Repeat measurements were performed, pooled, and averaged for the three algorithms in the corresponding stained sections of the aortic wall media of each rat. The morphological analyses were performed twice by two independent researchers using a single-blind protocol and tracleer.

Esis that siesta may be associated with stroke suggests real changes in physiology. In Calgary, Canada, siesta is not practiced. We collected time of stroke onset, defined by the last-seenwell principle, for all strokes n 538 ; admitted to Foothills Medical Center in Calgary over the calendar year 2000. Stroke onset times were grouped by hour. The Figure shows the raw data and a fitted polynomial regression curve for the number of strokes admitted to hospital by hour of onset. The curve showed a reasonable fit to the data using linear regression corrected for autocorrelation of residuals P 0.035 ; . The 1700-h peak in stroke occurrence, seen in Athens, does not occur in Calgary, providing some observational evidence that siesta may be an important risk factor for stroke occurrence. Alternately and perhaps more likely, ethnocultural differences in stroke risk factors and behaviors, stroke type, primary preventive treatments, and other factors may influence the local diurnal variation in stroke onset. Torsemide is excreted mainly via the hepatic route; hence high doses up to 100-200 mg in advanced chronic renal failure may be used and triazolam. Have been shown to reduce cardiovascular disease events in subjects with diabetes and hypertension.10, 14, 39, 52 The ALLHAT trial 39 demonstrated that compared to diabetic subjects taking lisinopril or amlodipine, the subjects assigned to chlorthalidone had an equivalent reduction in major cardiovascular end points but also had a significantly lower risk of heart failure. When administered as monotherapy to African-American hypertensive subjects, thiazides lower blood pressure more effectively than ACE inhibitors or ARBs. 912 Thiazide-induced hypokalemia may mitigate some of the cardiovascular benefits seen with thiazides53 and may further impair glucose metabolism; careful monitoring and replacement of potassium is essential. Thiazides progressively lose their antihypertensive effectiveness as estimated GFR declines below 45 ml min per 1.73 m 2, approximately corresponding to a serum creatinine 1.8 mg dl in men and 1.6 mg dl in women.3 Using age, race, sex, and serum creatinine, an estimated GFR can be determined at the following website: : newtech.kidney professionals kdqi gfr calculator . ; Loop diuretics furosemide, bumetanide, or torsemide ; should be substituted for thiazides at this level of renal function. Although their efficacy to reduce CVD events in hypertensive patients has not been studied, loop diuretics effectively lower extracellular volume and blood pressure in patients with hypertension and renal insufficiency. Short-acting loop diuretics such as furosemide or bumetanide require twice-daily administration for treatment of hypertension; the longeracting loop diuretic torsemide may be administered once daily.3 CCBs Both the nonDHP diltiazem and verapamil ; and the DHP CCBs amlodipine, felodipine, and others ; reduce CVD events in people with diabetes and hypertension. 15, 17, 18, With the possible exception of new-onset heart failure, CCBs prevent CVD events as effectively as the other antihypertensive drug classes. 38 NonDHP CCBs significantly reduce albuminuria and may slow the progression of proteinuric renal disease.54 In contrast, DHP CCBs inconsistently reduce albuminuria and are less effective than ACE inhibitors or ARBs in slowing the progression of diabetic nephropathy. 54 However, DHP CCBs effectively. The literature on reprint files falls into three distinct categories: General research into the use and value of personal files to researchers. Soper 17 ; and Jahoda 10 ; review the general characteristics of personal files and Burton 4, 5 ; reviews recent changes in personal information systems due to increased computer accessibility. Material which reviews a number of methods of reprint file managment. Stibic 19, 20 ; Jahoda 11 ; and Foskett 8 ; are good examples of this approach. A large volume of "how to" articles, usually written by individual researchers or clinicians detailing their own personal arrangements and targeted toward their colleagues in the field, appear in the literature on reprint files. This category of material reveals the individualistic approach all researchers take in developing and maintaining their files. Solutions found in the literature start with the simple: arrangement of all reprints by a single subject 14, 16 ; , to more complex approaches such as uniterm card systems 9 ; or carefully coded edge-notched card systems I ; .Fully indexed and computerized systems are described for main frames 12, 13 ; , for minicomputers 2, 61, and for microcomputers 3, 15 ; . Nonstandard methods also appear in the literature, such as Van Ree's system, which holds up to 900 references on a programmable calculator, complete with extremely abbreviated citations and an algorithm to compress subjects to four-letter codes 21 ; . The methods cited above remesent only a fraction of the literature in this category. This seemingly bewildering array is actually quite understandable: since all researchers have unique subject interests, their r e ~ files will be different in content; since their files vary in size, the files will require different degrees of maintenance and complexity; and since each researcher organizes and assimilates information differently, one would expect to find a wide variety of organizational methods. Very little has been written on any library instruction programs in reprint management aimed at end users. St. Clair and trifluoperazine. MASTER'S AND PH.D. Nine of 25 patients with cerebrovascular disease, continuous drip infusion of Bencyclan caused a decrease of global and regional cerebral blood flow with reduction of the rCBF values about 11.4 to 24.8%. Sixteen patients showed no statistically significant change of regional cerebral blood flow as compared to the flow values in the resting state.

Was significantly higher among the highly responsive patients compared to the nonresponsive and moderately responsive patients 62% vs 38% and 47%, respectively ; . Interestingly, the survival was not significantly greater among the moderate responders compared to the nonresponders in this series. Sandoval et al2 followed up a group of 60 patients with IPAH longitudinally after most had undergone acute vasodilator testing. They defined a "complete response" as a 20% reduction in both mPAP and PVR index, and a "partial response" as a 20% reduction in only PVR index. Both complete and partial responders were treated with oral vasodilators, while nonresponders and those who did not undergo vasodilator testing were not. The median survival for those not given vasodilator treatment was 2.12 years 95% confidence interval, 1.0 to 3.2 ; , while the mean survival for those receiving vasodilator treatment was 5.04 years 95% confidence interval, 4.16 to 5.92 ; , a statistically significant difference p 0.03 by log-rank test ; . The issue of whether degree of vasodilator responsiveness has prognostic implications in patients and trimethobenzamide and torsemide. Denatured liver homogenate and standard solutions of MU and MUG. Samples were handled and incubated as described above. 9-CMA was used as an internal standard. Calibration curves were linear over a concentration range of 100 nM to 20 MU. Recovery of MU and MUG averaged 100% after incubation with inactivated liver homogenate Sperker et al., 1996 ; . Dox was analyzed using a LiChrospher 100 RP-18 5 m, 250 4.6 mm I.D.; Merck, Darmstadt, Germany ; , a polygosil C18 10 m ; precolumn and a 821-FP detector Jasco, Tokyo, Japan ; with an excitation wavelength of 475 nm and an emission wavelength of 580 nm. The mobile phase consisted of 25 mM phosphoric acid 0.25% triethylamine: acetonitrile: methanol, 70: 40: 20 v v ; , and the flow rate was 0.9 ml min. Retention times for Dox and Dox-S-G were 7.3 and 16 min, respectively. Calibration samples contained standard solutions of the two compounds and heat-denatured liver homogenate. The calibration curves were linear over a concentration range of 330 nM to 30 Dox. Recovery of Dox and Dox-S-G averaged 100% in heat-denatured liver homogenate. Specific enzymatic activities and reaction rates are expressed in nanomoles or micromoles of the liberated aglycon MU or Dox ; per milligram of protein per hour. Western blotting and densitometry. Western blot analysis was performed as described previously Sperker et al., 1991 ; . Briefly, 50 g of tissue homogenate was subjected to 8% sodium dodecyl sulfate SDS ; gels. The blot was incubated with a hybridoma supernatant containing the monoclonal anti Gluc antibody 2156 215 diluted 1: 250 ; for 1 h at room temperature. Densitometric analysis was done with an Elscript 400 densitometer Hirschmann, Munchen, Ger many ; at a wavelength of 546 nm. Band intensities were expressed in AU, and specific -Gluc contents were expressed as AU mg protein. Statistical analysis. Calculation of SD values and linear regression analysis were done with GraphPad Prism GraphPad Software, Inc., San Diego, CA ; or SlideWrite 3.0 software Advanced Graphics Software, Inc., Carlsbad, CA ; . The kinetics of aglycon formation, Vmax, Km and the Hill coefficient n were calculated using the Michaelis-Menten equation.
